Despite there are significant advances in development across the globe, progress has been uneven. In has been very rapid in East Asia, Latin America and some parts of Middle East, but the pace has been slow in South Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa. Income per capita is often used to measure development and countries are then categorized into low, lower middle, upper middle and upper income countries respectively. However, variations in development and disparity in wealth accumulation have led to widening of gaps between rich and poor countries. This phenomenon has resulted in inequality among regions and nations.Socio-spatial inequality can be described as unequal distribution and availability of resources and services such as medical, welfare and education depending on the area or location. It might be instigated by culture, religion, race or remoteness of the areas. This situation can be identified by spatial analysis, where spatial dimension is used to describe pattern(s) of inequality. In addition, spatial variation can also be compared between different geographical areas in relation to social, cultural and environmental dimensions. This phenomenon of socio-spatial inequality may become persistent and self-perpetuating and in turn causes serious economic and social problems. It is pertinent, therefore, to detect issues of inequalities between different areas or ethnic groups in order to find strategies and formulate policies to bridge these inequalities so that resources and services can be distributed more evenly. Institution session We invite any institutions, universities or bodies that are interested to hold a special session to discuss their work-in-progress, initial findings or main findings of their research.
