Neuroeconomics has much to offer in understanding how and why people behave prosocially in some circumstances and selfishly in others. The Neuroeconomics of Prosocial Behavior summarizes evidence that prosocial decisions are driven by the anticipation of reward, after computing the benefits to the self, in relation to the likely intentions of others. The neuroeconomic framework of this book combines experimental paradigms from game theory with neuroimaging techniques, discussing research from psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics. This research shows that both affective and cognitive processes influence conscious deliberation and decision-making.
