Turkey as a country hosting more than 4 million refugees amid the biggest refugee crisis of the history is a laboratory for Refugee Law. In this respect, Istanbul Center of International Law (ICIL) is organizing its annual Winter Academy of International Law (WAIL) dedicated to Refugee Law in cooperation with Istanbul Law School.

Objective of WAIL is to promote the capacity building among Turkish law students in terms of specialization in Refugee Law to properly tackle with social and economic challenges of the reality of refugees. At the same time, we would like to enable foreign law students to analyze, learn and observe on-site Turkish experience on Refugee Law in Istanbul.

Academic organization of the WAIL is two-folded; The first part of the winter school is dedicated to the current legal challenges posed by Syrian refugees and their current situation in Turkey. The second part is dedicated to the international challenges against Refugee Law. The lecturers were carefully selected from Turkish and foreign experts who have valuable insight and significant expertize on their respective topics.

ICIL is operating changes in terms of content and organization to increase the quality of the program year by year. 2018 edition of WAIL is focused on the current challenges against the 1951 Geneva Convention.
