ABSTRACT

The model of dynamic networks describes networked computing systems with topologies that change over time. In the conventional model of distributed computations in dynamic networks, processes proceed in synchronous rounds, and the adversary determines the sequence of communication graphs that can be used by the processes for exchanging information these rounds. The simplest and the most studied "oblivious" adversary assumes that in each round, the graph is taken from some predefined set.Unfortunately, very little synchronization can be attained in the oblivious model. One of the reasons is that this model does not leverage the "mobility patterns" that typically can be induced in practical systems. Therefore, a lot of research concerns various "mobility models" in dynamic networks.The point of this project is to explore the range of these models, with their benefits and disadvantages. Already proposed formalisms for dynamic networks will be studied and compared, with the ultimate goal to find the proper model to achieve the synchronisation needed for blockchain peer-to-peer protocols (consensus blockchain and 2nd layer protocols).
