The main goal of the group is to combine state-of-the-art imaging and single cell techniques with mechanistic modelling and bioinformatics analyses to investigate how the emergent behaviour of cells, organs and organisms originates from molecular entities.

Description: we seek a highly skilled and motivated postdoc to develop a research project focused on studying the genetics of epileptogenesis using an in vivo model (zebrafish). In brief, the research project includes the generation of zebrafish lines and/or the use of available lines with epilepsy-specific mutations to perform deep phenotyping within the context of epilepsy. This position is part of a German-Luxembourgish research unit focusing on the complex genetics of generalized epilepsies.

More specifically your tasks will include:

  • Performance of molecular biology experiments such as CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis and PCR-based genotyping of zebrafish
  • Deep characterization of mutant lines by light sheet microscopy and single cell RNA sequencing
  • Performance of experiments using zebrafish embryos/larvae e.g. microinjections, behavioral tests, open field recordings
  • Modern data management and project documentation
  • Maintenance of a clean laboratory setting

Your Profile

  • A PhD degree in molecular biology, neurosciences, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or another similar life science related discipline
  • Experience with molecular biology and microscopy techniques
  • Experience with working with animals is preferred (animal laboratory science certificate is required), previous experience with aquaculture techniques and/or with zebrafish will be considered as an advantage
