The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates at the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich a suite of high performance neutron scattering instruments. It provides access to these instruments for scientists from universities and research institutions in Germany and throughout the world. Within the user program more than 1000 scientists visit the MLZ every year to perform experiments in the physical, chemical, biological and materials sciences. In addition, JCNS is actively pursuing a research program in the field of soft matter science and condensed matter physics and energy research.

We are looking to recruit as soon as possible for our sample Environment Team a highly motivated

2019-094 - Postdoc in Physics for the operation and development of low temperature devices

Your Job:

  • Operation of the suite of cryostats including low temperature dilution inserts for the neutron scattering instruments in user service
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing and development of new equipment based on the requirements of the instrument scientists
  • Operation of high- field cryomagnets
  • Disseminate development results via publications and international conference presentations
  • Actively work on increasing the user base at MLZ

Your Profile:

  • A PhD degree in Physics or a related discipline
  • A strong background in low temperature physics
  • A profound experience with different types of cryostats and other low temperature equipment
  • Solid knowledge in neutron scattering research an instrumentation would be a distinct advantage
  • Very good command of written and spoken English
  • Initiative character, creativity, good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, result orientation and analytical skills
