Job description

The Molecular Mechanisms of Polygenic and Monogenic Diabetes’s research Group led by Dr Mariana Igoillo-Esteve is seeking highly a motivated post-doctoral researcher to study the pathophysiological mechanisms of monogenic and polygenic forms of diabetes associated with tRNA epitranscriptome dysregulations and endoplasmic reticulum stress. The successful applicant will join the ULB Center for Diabetes Research, characterised by a remarkable track record in research excellence.

Project description:

The project will use in vitro and in vivo disease models including gene silencing in human β-cells, transgenic mice, iPSC-derived β-cells from control individuals, monogenic diabetes patients and CRISPR/Cas 9-mediated isogenic controls, as well as humanized mouse models to study the molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic β-cell demise caused by endoplasmic reticulum stress and altered tRNA modification and fragmentation induced by genetic and environmental factors.

The ULB Center for Diabetes Research offers an excellent environment for innovative science.

We believe in a strong scientific commitment and reproducible findings to contribute to translate fundamental science to the clinic by collaborative efforts between scientists, physicians and the industry.

  • PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, and/or metabolism
  • Experience in cell culture, molecular biology/genome editing (e.g. qPCR, CRISPR/Cas9), immunohistochemical and biochemical techniques is essential
  • Experience with iPSC culture and differentiation will be advantageous
  • Experience in RNA biology will be advantageous
  • Experience in mouse handling and experimentation will be advantageous
  • The candidate should have a very good track record of research and be capable to work independently and in a team framework
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required
  • Very good skills in spoken and written English
  • High motivation, flexibility as well as innovate and creative thinking are a must
