Early Career Scholars in French and Francophone Studies 2020 (roundtable)
Е-мейл Оргкомітету: email@example.com
This roundtable brings together early career faculty in French and Francophone Studies with several aims: First, to connect early career faculty and researchers in the broad field of French and Francophone Studies in order to build a network particular both to the field and to the stakes for scholars in the early years of their academic careers. Second, to discuss and define the distinguishing characteristics of our changing field from the perspective of scholars who will be shaping the discipline in the coming decades, particularly in the face of increasing precarity and the urgent need for diverse faculty. Third, to propose and discuss concrete actions for a network of early career scholars that will be sustainable beyond formal conference meetings.
The Francophone population is growing in the world, namely in Africa, at a pace that some predict will surpass the Anglophone world by 2050. Yet we continue to see French and Francophone Studies programs eliminated or drastically reduced. The proposed roundtable aims to address this stark reality with a goal of sustaining our profession while responding to the dynamic landscapes of higher education and our global society. In so doing, this roundtable also takes up the 2020 Convention theme, “Shaping and Sharing Identities,” by examining and addressing questions concerning the shape our common professional identity will take in the coming years.
