MTIP2020: Meaning in Translation: Ilussion of Precision

The Institute of Applied Linguistics of the Faculty of E-Learning Technologies and Humanities, Riga Technical University invites you to participate in the fourth biannual conference “Meaning in Translation: Illusion of Precision” on 27-29 May, 2020. 

The times and epochs have passed, but meaning in translation – elusive and fascinating, precise and pragmatically relevant – remains the main focus of translation studies. The issue of accurate representation of meaning across the languages has become particularly topical in the era of digitalization, proliferation of MT and CAT tools, evolution of neural machine translation networks, and the changes in the way information is generated, stored, processed and transmitted. 

This year, we invite the speakers to consider translation in the digital age and consider translation studies in relation to the wide and developing area of digital humanities. Thus, this year we make the focus on “Translation Studies in the Era of Digital Humanities”. 

We hope that the conference will bring together researchers and translators, academia and students, practitioners in language services and technologies and language policy makers and will become a forum for promoting dynamic and constructive debate, networking and research cooperation.

Submission Guidelines

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The detailed information about the submission of the papers shall be announced shortly on the conference website.

We are inviting paper submissions covering a wide range of topics including, but not limited to, the following issues:
