The project will investigate feedback control for robotics, specifically position/force control for equilibrium and non-equilibrium behaviours. The project will develop control algorithms for manipulation of deformable objects, haptic interfaces, biomedical robotics, and locomotion.

Methods: passivity theory, impedance control, differential dissipativity, dynamic allocation techniques, adaptive/learning techniques. Experimental studies will be conducted in soft robotics and robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery.

Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by the start date) a high 2.1, preferably a 1st class honours degree in Engineering or related subject.

Good knowledge or experience of feedback control, robotics, and mechanics is expected.

EPSRC DTP studentships are fully-funded (fees and maintenance) for UK students or provide fees only for EU students from outside the UK, subject to eligibility requirements. Further details about eligibility can be found at: https://epsrc.ukri.org/skills/students/help/eligibility/

Applications should be submitted via the University of Cambridge Applicant Portal www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/directory/egegpdpeg, with Dr Forni identified as the potential supervisor.

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
